When I bought my Arabian gelding, I didn’t ride him for a month because I was afraid of him. When I finally started riding him, he was a nutcase and would lose his brain almost immediately and wanted to be a racehorse. I didn’t know how to get him to pay attention to me and tiring him out wasn’t working. He was broke to ride at 12 years old but was like a young colt that didn’t know even the basics.

As an advanced beginner, I started taking lessons with Lisette, as she was training a horse that I had leased. A year later, she helped me evaluate horses I was interested in for purchase, and helped me make a detailed list of concerns to address with the vet check once I chose a horse to purchase.

Lisette came to the ranch I was boarding at as an intern wanting to learn more about Western Riding. Her Dutch roots had her well versed in Dressage and Jumping but to ride with a slack rein and more leather around her was a goal of hers, and it was fun watching her grow and excel into Western riding well beyond what most thought she would. She started many horses at the ranch and brought quite a few to the show pen to win against many other trainers who had been in the business for years well beyond hers.

Let me first start by painting the picture on how I met Lisette Zandvoort. I bought a 5 year old paint mare that spent her entire life in a stall and arena. I did all the right things by riding several times and showing up unannounced to ride. Everything was perfect right? Wrong, I brought my horse home and disaster hit.

My family has worked with Lisette for over 4yrs. We originally found her to give our daughter English riding lessons, but were so impressed with how she worked with our daughter and her horse, that my husband and I decided to take lessons with Lisette too. Lisette has a great ability to see what a horse needs.

Lisette is a gifted and conscientious trainer. When Lisette was the trainer in residence, she regularly made entries on a clipboard tracking the progress of the horses under her tutelage. When my Thoroughbred mare began to stall and balk, and hesitate to be in front of the (responsive to the leg aids), Lisette got on her and without the use of force, and got the mare back in gear. When a young Quarter horse violently bucked off a child rider Lisette immediately and fearlessly got on the horse and got him moving forward without bucking. Lisette is a gregarious and outgoing person who is dedicated to her horse and human students. At the ranch, Lisette demonstrated her open-mindedness as regards to improving her training and equestrian skills as well as expanding her knowledge of equine anatomy and health issues.

I was blown away by the training Lisette did for me. She put a superlative foundation training on my 3 year old filly. I can now take what she did and easily train further as my horse is now so willing and trusting. The horse has impeccable manners fit for royalty and is a true pleasure to work with. A sincere “thank you”, Lisette!

Lisette has a knack for bringing out the best in horses and their riders. She herself has brought several horses along to become reining champions. She works with everything from colt starting to show prep and showing for owners, helping owners get ready for and performing in shows. She also works with weekend riders to help them improve their relationship with their equine companions.
She is very honest and trustworthy. I highly recommend Lisette and LZ horsetraining to anyone who wants to improve their riding and their horse’s abilities.
